The one who devotes their life to earn the knowledge of the Atma, that is, their true Self, must possess holy virtues, mould their conduct and have sacred contacts. For no knowledge can be higher than virtuous character; truly, character is power. For persons who have dedicated their years to the acquisition of higher learning, sterling character is an indispensable qualification. Every religion emphasizes the same need, not as a special creedal condition but as the basis of spiritual life and conduct itself.
