Sai Inspires - 1st November 2009

Even for being blessed by the Lord's Grace, one must have peace and wait patiently. Serenity alone succeeds in bringing about the result of the spiritual practices. Add this lesson to the practices you are engaged in. The true devotee will always dwell in God. He/she has no time to know or feel their welfare or worries. Attaining the Lord is the one and only idea in their mind. It is hard to understand this nature... Let me explain with an example. A small child runs about shouting "amma, amma" searching for his/her missing mother. The mother takes it up in her arms and places it on her lap. The child stops crying and is free from all fear. But can the child calculate and find out the difference between its previous state and its present relief? No! Nor is it necessary to do so! So too, if you seek to ever serve the Lord, immerse yourself in service and be engaged in thoughts of God. -Divine Discourse,  Prasanthi Vahini.

Sai Inspires - 31st October 2009

If the devotee has dedicated his all, body, mind and existence to the Lord,  the Lord Himself will look after everything, and He will always be with the devotee. Under such circumstances, there is no need for prayer. But have you so dedicated yourself and surrendered everything to the Lord? No! When losses occur, or calamities come, or plans go astray, the devotee blames the Lord. If you fully rely completely on the Lord at all times, why should He deny you His Grace? Why should He desist from helping you? At times, devotees do not rely fully and unswervingly on the Lord. Therefore, though you have to be the agent and the instrument doing everything, keep on praying with devotion and faith. Faith is the product of peace, not of haste and hurry. Prayer of this type with peace is essential for spiritual aspirants. Prayer of this type will promote equanimity. -Divine Discourse, Prasanthi Vahini.

If you, as a spiritual aspirant, are unsuccessful in following discipline, you must seek and know the cause of your defeat. This analysis is necessary.  You must then see that in the second stage this trait is not repeated. You must try your best to guard yourself against this. In such matters, you must be quick and active like the squirrel. Agility and vigilance, combined with the sharpness of intelligence earned by peace, must quickly come to your aid. Courage, wise counsel, steadiness and undeviating earnestness is very important for avoiding and overcoming conflicts in your mind. Sai Inspires - 28th October 2009

Peace is essential for sharpness of intellect. Haste and worry will confuse the intelligence. Peace develops all the beneficial characteristics in you. Even farsightedness grows through Peace. Through that, obstacles can be anticipated and averted. In the past, you may have had failings, mistakes, drawbacks, etc. In such situations, the "Will to feel pure" must be strengthened and these failings will never be recollected. If thoughts run after the failings and begin to dwell on how they came about, you are prone to commit a few more  mistakes. Since you already recognized these as your mistakes, why worry about their birth and ancestry? Of what profit is it to spend time on things that are no longer necessary? You  must have calm thoughts. Only then can your mind experience equanimity. It is just a question of the discipline of the mind, difficult in the beginning, but once mastered, capable of conquering all troubles and worries. An unruffled mind is very important for every aspirant. It is one of his beneficial qualities. Strive to gain it, though you may fail in earlier attempts. Such a mind gives real strength and happiness. Do not yield to despair, cowardice or helplessness. Even if a calamity befalls, you must not lose heart. The mind must be ever pure, untarnished, calm, full of courage. No weeping for the past, no faltering in the performance of the task at hand - this is the true mark of a spiritual aspirant. The spiritual aspirants and devotees of the yesteryears reached their goal through Santhi (peace). Ramdas, Tukaram, Kabir, Thyagaraja, Nandana (Great Devotees of the Lord), all of them cultivated the fortitude needed to bear all the calumny, torture and travail, that was their lot. If you base your effort on these examples, you will be free of anger, despair or doubt.  The accounts of their struggles and successes, when contemplated upon are more useful to the aspirant than the contemplation of the powers and accomplishments of the Lord. These accounts will help you to try out in your own experience, the methods which has been developed. You will find that Santhi (peace) was the main instrument that saved them from the coils of anger, pain, conceit, doubt and despair. The Lord loves the Inner, not the Outer. But you should not neglect the outer, even in the outward behaviour and in your acts you should manifest the inner feeling. That gives a chance for experiencing the feeling of quietude and santhi (peace) in fuller measure, for the taste of that santhi (peace) must be enjoyed through every thought, word, gesture and deed. It is only when santhi is experienced in all these four, that it becomes fully complete or paripoorna. To attain these, real change must be made in the daily conduct and in your behaviour. In every little act, thought and word, one should discriminate and adopt the best. That is the sign of the genuine sadhaka (spiritual aspirant). - Divine Discourse,  Prasanthi Vahini .
